About Us

Welcome! The Virginia Consortium of Quilters was established in 1984 to bring statewide quilters together. The growing guild’s love of quilting and sharing the craft has expanded membership nationwide with the advances of technology. Current members live in various states, not only Virginia, due to relocation or discovering us online through our website or Facebook. The guild meets three to four times a year in various parts of the state. In even years we have a 4-day Celebration of Quilting with classes, lectures and lots of social interaction.

Each of our 3 annual day-long in-person meetings is held in a different area of the state, usually hosted by a local quilt guild. We begin with a three hour morning class, followed by a box lunch, a short business meeting, either an afternoon speaker or a two hour continuation of the morning class, and, of course, Show & Tell. Vendors are usually available for your shopping pleasure.

Members have a choice of several classes for each meeting. Many of our teachers and speakers are prominent national quilters. Teachers may offer precut kits for sale, to maximize the sewing/learning time in class. For those who wish to work on their own projects, Come Quilt With Me is always available instead of a class.

We also hold 2 virtual day-long workshops each year offering one virtual class. It may start with a lecture or 2-3 hour morning class, mid-day lunch break, followed by continuation of the class or a short class in the afternoon.

In 2022 we launched our annual virtual “New Year’s Eve Day” quilt-a-long with great success. This is a free event open to all quilters as space allows. Together we have solved a couple of mysteries and finished our UFO’s to wrap up the year. Pop-in guests have included teachers scheduled for upcoming classes and the Director of the Virginia Quilt Museum to talk about upcoming events.

Newsletter

VCQ publishes a newsletter about six weeks prior to each quarterly meeting. It contains workshop information for the meeting as well as other VCQ informational updates. Catch up on the last two years with the newsletters below:

Celebration!

Every two years, even numbered years, (2026, 2028, 2030), our state-wide quilting organization, Virginia Consortium of Quilters (VCQ), has a four day retreat filled with quilting, eating, and just plain fun! Workshops are available with teachers from across the country. Or you can choose to sew on your own in the ‘Come Quilt with Me’ room. The workshops are wonderful, the food is wonderful, and the friendships you make and re-establish each time, are priceless. Visit our Celebration! page for more information.

Thinking of You

We have a VCQ “Thinking of You” block you can use to let members know you are thinking of them. Use it in time of illness, sorrow, to extend congratulations, or just to say “I’m thinking of you.” The pattern is taken from an old friendship block and, if made in this 4″ size, fits perfectly inside a card.
